“David’s approach to teaching writing has been a phenomenal gift to my son. Since writing did not come easily for him and could sometimes be frustrating, it was a saving grace to have David’s support because he was able to make the writing process fun and accessible. After working with David for a few years, my son has truly internalized the ability to confront a blank page without panicking and to create a thoughtful, compelling piece of writing.”

At Your Side

Whether it is an emergency round of feedback on an essay due the next morning or a weekly session to develop paragraph organization, we support students throughout the school year with any writing-related school assignments—English, language arts, humanities, and history are our core specialties.

We do not take for granted that students know the fundamentals of reading and writing. From annotating to outlining to drafting, we provide guided practice of basic skills and strategies to teach thinking as a process, motivate students to produce their strongest writing, and ultimately encourage personal accountability. Practicing the critical thinking strategies that produce an advantage in any context, students receive ongoing individualized feedback so they feel productive, challenged, and successful.

As a rule, our sessions are personalized, adaptive, and tailored to meet the needs of each individual student. Current examples of our services include helping:

  • A fifth grader practice grammar, punctuation, and sentence structure for a history project

  • A sixth grader clarify the difference between summary and analysis for an English assignment

  • A seventh grader structure outlining, drafting, and revising processes for humanities class

  • An eighth grader reach for creative and abstract interpretations in a poetry analysis essay

  • A ninth grader develop reading comprehension skills by teaching annotation and interpretation

  • A tenth grader organize ideas into a thesis statement, topic sentences, and body paragraphs

  • An eleventh grader proofread a philosophy essay for syntax and logical argumentation
